inSPire were proud to sponsor once again the SRP Europe Conference, the annual industry gathering in London for manufacturers (banks), distributors (private banks, investment firms), regulators and service providers to meet up and network together over 3 days at London’s Hilton Tower Bridge Hotel.
The event was very well attended and inSPire Managing Director Mark Aldous spoke to a full room on the Reg Tech panel covering the significance of technology and the role that external providers can play in spurring market growth and improvement.
In the ‘Ask the Regulators session both AMF and FSMA both talked about continued focus on product complexity, while Emmanuel Doumas of ESMA hinted at a departure of the ‘one fits all’ approach to the PRIIPs regulation that has caused such a backlash from the industry. Speaking about the upcoming publication of changes to the Level 2 Technical Standards due at the end of March, Emmanuel suggested that, ahead of the UCITs adoption of the rules in 2021, consideration had been given for allowing a different presentation of scenarios for different types of product, possibly through use of past performance result for the fund products (as a change to future scenarios currently adopted under PRIIPs and due to apply to UCITS funds from 2021). He also suggested that cost disclosure may also allow for adoption of more than one approach to allow for a better alignment with MiFID and offer greater comparability between products.
At the final session on the impact of Fintech on structured products industry, Susanne Chishti, CEO Fintech Circle, was asked who would be the names sponsoring this conference in 10 years time; Susanne suggested perhaps one or two tech giants, either from US or the emerging titans of TenCent and Alipay, or perhaps one or 2 newer Fintechs.
Thanks to SRP for another successful gathering!
